How to Be a Consummate Speaker Faster

Title : "How to Be a Consummate Speaker Faster".Public Speaking,Business,Advice How do consummate speakers do it? How do they get there? How do you make yourself a consummate speaker -- and how do you do it faster? In this space you harvest as many ideas as I can pack  into 625 words:

  1. Know your subject

Know it inside out, upside down, backward and forward. Study it  tirelessly, endlessly, relentlessly. Make it your other intimate  other. Love it with a passion that knows no bounds, has no  limits. Devote yourself to your topic resolutely -- and make  yourself its master. Dedicate your energy, your time, your  resources without limit and without reserve to your chosen  discipline. Yes, have a love affair with your theme.

When I was 17 I lied about my age to get a job at RCA. I was the  sole support of my mom and 2 kid sisters. I quit high school  because there was no one else to support them. I quickly worked  my way into the electronic test group. I studied my task just as  I recommend you to do. My love affair with the CRT and the  alignment process yielded new, original, previously undiscovered  ideas to shorten a procedure from 45 minutes to 15 minutes.  Standing firm against the non-believers, I prevailed. I got the  process I conceived made the new standard, thus tripling  production in my department. I knew my subject. Know your  subject, speaker!

2. Know your market

Know exactly what people, companies, associations, groups,  industries are most likely to appreciate you and your mastership  -- and to reward you handsomely for your insights, your views,  your recommendations. Know their demographics. Know their  psychographics. Then stay on top of events that matter to those  in your market.  Be a restless, hungry, greedy seeker of every crumb of data, knowledge -- and wisdom -- that impacts those at every level in your market. From the shareholders to the Board to the CEO to senior management to every level , every specialty, every group and sub-group. Leave no stone unturned.

Years ago, way back before I dreamed of becoming a speaker, I  represented the Pepsodent Division of Lever Brothers to retailers  in the Greater Los Angeles area. I found retailers who didn't  know that they longed to carry my line, to display it, feature  it, promote it. I identified dozens and dozens of stores,  targeted them and won them over. Not just as customers, far more  than that. I made them advocates, believers, disciples. Amen,  brother! This passionate devotion to the cause of that brand  carried me to recognition, awards -- and much more. I knew my  market. Know your market, expert-who-speaks!

3. Know yourself

Know your values. Know your value -- and don't settle for less.  Know what you stand for. Know what matters, truly matters,  bone-deep, to you. Know where you've been. Know where you're  going. Know why you do what you do.

Hey, fellow speaker, I've lived this stuff, I don't just teach  it. Years ago, when Pepsodent didn't reward me adequately, I  quit. (When a market doesn't reward you adequately for your  contributions as an expert who speaks, find another market that  does recognize and reward your value.)

When I moved on I joined Cole Steel Equipment Company -- and in 5 years tripled their sales in the Greater Los Angeles area. This  went on and on until I started to awaken others to their  potential. And to how to actualize their potential. But -- you  don't want my life story. You're more interested in YOUR life  story...and how you can write future chapters you'll be proud to  show your kids. (Know yourself, fellow expert, fellow speaker!)

How To Create a Bond With Your Prospects and Clients

Title : "How To Create a Bond With Your Prospects and Clients".Public Speaking,Business,Sales Bonding is creating a close and valued relationship.  An ongoing  relationship.  Lets look at a few dictionary definitions of  relationship:

According to the Merriam-Webster, it's the state or character of  being related.  The Random House calls it an emotional or other  connection between people.  The Oxford says it's the state of  being related.  I say it's all that goes on between people, once  they've connected.

We're going to look at your relationship with the prospect  who can invest in your services or products.
And we must first recognize your most important relationship -- your relationship with you.  You're the best you there is.  There will never be another you.

And you've got this one-way ticket——to life.  To your life as a  marketer of your services or products.  You've got your shot at making a difference.  And the better you relate with decision-makers who qualify to invest in what you offer, the more of a difference you can make.

Your accountabilities:

1.  So your first accountability is to yourself.  You’re accountable
for delivering the very finest services/products—appropriate for your market‚— within your ability.  For stretching and growing constantly.  For being accountable for your presence here.  To help this happen, before you accept a transaction (whatever defines a transaction to you,) ask qualifying questions.
Be certain your buyer is to be well served by your deliverables.

Be sensitive to the attitude of the decision-maker.  Ask  yourself if this feels like a fit, feels like it's right for you as well as the buyer.

2.  Instead of pitching your products/services, analyze the possibilities for a mutual exchange of values.  Look for the  chance of long-term synergy rather than a one-time sale.  For  in-depth connection.  For relationship.  At the very least you  want to know there are to be referrals and recommendations  flowering from this transaction.

You want this to be the beginning and not the end.  If there is to be no chance for introductions to other decision-makers who can benefit from your services/products as an outcome of your giving your all, and doing a fine job—then you are accountable for seriously considering whether you want this transaction at all.

3.  You're accountable for your comfort level relating with this decision-maker.  Choose to accept only those transactions that  feel right to you.  For organizations whose policies you can admire.
Whose approach to their markets and their clients you can support.  And whose mission you want to serve.  When you limit yourself  to working only with such clients, you'll enjoy the relationship far more.  (Why bother with any other kind?)

4.  Put the cherry on the top:

Go the extra mile.  It feels so g-o-o-o-d.  Include something  extra.  Always.  Something not expected.  Something not required.  Something above and beyond.  A surprise that delights the  decision-maker—and others affected by this transaction, too.

When I was 7 or 8, there were 4 little ice cream parlors within a few blocks of my home in Ventnor, New Jersey.  I’s cadge a  nickel from my mom.  Then I’d check out each store to see where I got the best deal for my five cents.  The ice cream cones  were all about the same size.

However, at one of the stores the person behind the counter would dip the ice cream cone into a bowl of jimmies (little chocolate sprinkles) and then hand me the ice cream cone.  Which ice cream parlor do you think got all my business?

Ground Rules:

1.  Accept this truth—decision-maker is already doing her  best.  There may be imposed policies she can't change.  Maybe  there are ritualized procedures she must use to keep her job.  Go along.  Be detached about it.

2.  Do not invest emotion in outcomes.  Be unconcerned about  whether or not you get a specific sale.

3.  Offer your services/products at a fair fee.  Have a "take it or  leave it" attitude.  No one sale matters.

4.  Have resolute, impeccable, untouchable integrity.  It's  not enough to simply do what you say you'll do.  More than that,
be predictable and reliable in every way relative to your word.

5.  Include a bit of fun.  Light-hearted, with good-will and  tongue-in-cheek.  Be a little off-the-wall when possible.  Be  sure there's elation in your relationship.

6.  Say "Thank you."  Express appreciation and gratitude as  often as possible.  With the decision-maker.  With everyone.  People talk.  Word gets back that you're nice.  Decision-makers
like to relate with nice people.

7.  Remember:  you create, promote, or allow everything that  happens in your relationship with the decision-maker—and  all others.

Title : "911 - The Call That Counts".Public Speaking,Business,Sales “The trouble with the future is——it isn’t what it used to be”

Paul Valery  (1871-1945) writes these words.  I first hear them from  NSA member Robert Mayer Evans in 1984.  He repeats this piercing quote several times during his general session speech at my first NSA Convention.  I cannot forget them.  They sear my heart.

On September 11 2001 your future changes forever.  Your future  twists into a new and undesired shape.  There is fear in the hearts of your clients and customers.  How secure is their future now.  And the future of their children.  This persists into the indefinite future.

If you are in the United States of America, as about 75% of my readers are, you know you’re not protected by the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans any more.  Not now.  Not ever again.
You know that perverted and malicious villains, our mortal enemies who gleefully shatter our innocence and destroy lives and futures, are among us now.

They do not share our values and principles.  They are jealous of our freedoms.  They would destroy Western culture as we know and cherish it.  The targeted symbols in the USA are just the start of their inhumane, cruel, and vicious intentions.

The curtain is rising on this very bad play.  The overture is playing.  There are several acts to follow.
Treachery and much flowing blood, mostly ours, wait in the wings.

Like the citizens of Israel for the past 53 years, you and all your freedom loving family, friends, associates, neighbors, customers and clients, live on the front lines now.
Terror and ferocious atrocities may be a savage moment away.

The trouble with the future is, it isn’t what it used to be.

Now:
The day is come; the hour is here; the moment is at hand.  How are you to use your stewardship of your life?  What are you to do as you relate with your family, friends, associates, neighbors, customers and clients?
This:

You are to reflect lofty principles first articulated and modeled by the founders of the United States of America.  Unyielding ethical attitudes and actions are to be vivified by all we think, say, and do.

All of us are to be voices of hope and comfort as we share out perceived truth.  We are in no way to be inflammatory.  We are to be voices of reason and faith.
We are to support our elected leaders regardless of politics.
Now we stand shoulder to shoulder in a common cause.

Finally, we are to do our job, whatever that job may be.  We are to stand tall, proud of our calling.  Blessed by our opportunity to be alive and to make a positive difference in these tremulous and dangerous times.

The trouble with the future is——it isn’t what it used to be.”  ____________________________________________________
